As part of its partnership with the Raise Your Hand Texas Foundation, UNT Dallas is awarding full scholarships for aspiring Bilingual Teachers as well as ongoing training and development opportunities, mentorship from expert public school educators, and participation in a statewide aspiring teachers network facilitated by the Raise Your Hand Texas Foundation.

This opportunity, known as the Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers, is a one-year scholarship inclusive of tuition and fees, renewable for a second year.

Preference will be given to community college students who will receive their Associate's degree on or before May 2018 or early college high school seniors who will also receive their Associate's degree on or before May 2018.  We will also consider students entering from high school as freshmen.

Selection Criteria

  • Charles Butt scholarship applicants must:

  • Enroll or be enrolled full-time in a partner university program that will lead to a teaching certificate

  • Be a Texas resident

  • Have a strong academic record and history of achievement

  • Have demonstrated peer or group leadership skills

  • Demonstrate a commitment to pursuing a career in education in high-needs Texas public schools upon completion of the program

Scholarship Benefits

All Charles Butt scholars will receive the following forms of financial and professional support:

  • A scholarship of up to $8,000 per year

  • Mentorship from a local educator or principal

  • Participation in local and statewide cohort meetings of aspiring teachers

  • Invitation and funds to attend the Raise Your Hand Texas Leadership Symposium

  •  Inclusion in an on-campus teaching scholar club

  • Professional support as they near graduation

  • An online community for scholars across the state to connect
